Drawing again

I let the ball drop on drawing yet again! I was supposed to do at least one finished drawing a week and somehow December is proving to be not such a creative month! All the social engagements and the shopping has cut into my studio time, it seems!!
Last night I was at an artist gathering at my gallery and as we talked about our art, the issue of drawing came up again and again! All of us agreed on the importance of drawing well! And doing it frequently! Diane Aeschliman (a fine draftsman), Jan Blencowe, and master pastellist Claudia Post, all agreed that drawing has played a major role in their becoming good painters! I have talked about this issue in another post and I am not going to bore you with that again! But last nights discussions with other artists has sort of propelled me back to my drawing board! SO here goes my latest effort!

  1. It is really true. Sadly I haven't devoted enough time to drawing. Since my work is in collage and not exactly realistic, my drawing skills have slid. I think I need to look into a drawing class.

  2. Ishita this is a lovely drawing! And yes, drawing is where it all starts! I love to go to the museum and draw. Sometimes I do sketches of the paintings, sometimes I draw the architecture of the museum building itself, and sometimes I go to the natural history museum and draw the artifacts and animal specimens. It's like traveling to exotic places but instead taking photos I'm drawing what I discover there. 3. Claudine, I am working on collage/mixed media too.... ANd that is one of the reasons I think I was neglecting my drawing skills! But am making myself draw, even if I am not really doing representative paintings per se! At least that option will be open, if I want to switch again!!
Jan, I have spent countless hour at the Met and Louvre drawing! It is an enchanting experience, even with people leaning over your shoulders to take a peek! Lol. Made me feel very cool!

  4. There is also that wonderful sculpture museum in Norwich where you can wander around for hours -- drawers' paradise!

  5. I love that place! Do you remember Libby, they used to try to make us go there every so often? I used to think it a chore but now I wish I had not taken these things for granted!

  7. I agree! I wish I could study drawing at the Grand Central Ac, where you went! Maybe some day....The more I am moving away from representational painting, more I feel the pull of drawing! I wonder what that is about!
